The jury selects the competitors for the first round on the bases of the application materials submitted.

Qualifying competitors are notified via email by 31 May 2021, at the same time the list of competitors accepted for the first round will also be available on the website of the competition.
Maximum 32 competitors can be accepted for the first round.

By submitting an application, the participant accepts, that the rounds of the competition are recorded. With the application the participant consents to the professional use of these recordings by Filharmonia Hungary in relation to the competition, the detailed regulations of which are described in the Rules of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition. The competitor cannot assert any financial or other claims whatsoever, directly or indirectly, against Filharmonia Hungary Non-profit Ltd. 

  1. Application deadline: 24:00, 15 April, 2021. If you are unable to send your video recording due to the pandemic by April 15, you can request an extension of the deadline until April 30. In this case, please send your request until 15 April.
  2. The competition is open to pianists of all nationalities born after 1 January, 1989.
  3. Applications can only be submitted using the online application form.
  4. Fill in the online application form and submit the following documents:
  • A 20-25 minutes long HD-quality (min. 720p) video recording of the applicant performing the chosen compositions unedited/without pause (each work can be recorded on a separate video). The video should be recorded no more than 12 months before the date of submission with the camera providing a total view of the artist from not too faraway. *

  • Identity card (only for EU citizens) or passport PDF file (EU- and non EU-citizens)
  • Artistic biography (PDF file)
  • A recently prepared high-definition portrait photo of the applicant, with the minimum size of 2-3 MB
  1. The video material should demonstrate the artistic and technical skills of the competitor, that together with the applicant’s artistic biography is assessed by the jury in order to obtain a fuller picture about the competitor’s skills and preparedness. The video should be accessed by streaming or be downloadable in video format. The video can be private or public but the jury should be able to access it directly (without using passwords). It is not necessary to use any specific streaming surface, we accept the best known surfaces like (Youtube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Youku etc.) or any others compatible with Windows or MAC computers.
  2. The competitor acknowledges to participate at the Franz Liszt International Competitions at his/her own expense, under which the competitor cannot assert any claims whatsoever against Filharmonia Hungary Non-Profit Ltd.
  3. By submitting information with the application, the participant voluntarily and independently of any outside influence, consents to be notified by Filharmonia Hungary Non-Profit Ltd. about the competition at the email address provided. Filharmonia Hungary Non-Profit Ltd. undertakes to handle the information obtained in compliance with the legislation and data protection and data processing regulations in effect. Further information can be accessed on the website of the Company (on the footers) of the Privacy Policy.


  1. Participation fee: 180 EUR (120 EUR in case of applications received by 15 March, 2021).
  2. Competitors following the notification of acceptance for the first round should pay the participation fee no later than 30 June, 2021.
  3. Please transfer your participation fee to the bank account of the organiser:
