János Mácsai

János Mácsai musicographer graduated in 1987 at Musicology MA program of Budapest Music Academy. In 1988-1989 he pursued his studies as a scholar in The Netherlands, studying musicology and musical instrument restoration. In 1990 he earned Kodály fellowship and in 1993 got a degree in music direction wich was followed by the Doctoral School of Budapest Music Academy. Since 2000 he has been working as a free-lance musicographer, critic and musical instrument restorer. Since 1984 he has published numerous articles about music, several critiques on concerts and records and gives lectures on musicography. In 1991 he founded the Hungarian Instrument Makers Association and launched a periodical titled World of Instruments.

In the 1990s Mr Mácsai contributed to several records and television programmes as a music director and since 1994 he has been working as a reporter and editor for the Hungarian Radio, hosting musical programmes, making interviews and musical critiques, broadcasting concerts. He has contributed to more than 1500 programmes including some 1000 live broadcasts. Mácsai also took part in TV programmes as a host, reporter and music expert at Hungarian Television and Duna Television. He made film portraits about Livia Rév (pianist) and Angelica Girls Choir. Since 2003 he has been working as a lecturer at University of Theatre and Film Arts and in 2009 he started to teach musicography at Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
